Necmi İğe House Ethnography Museum

This 18th century mansion is the oldest surviving example of civil architecture in Edirne. The mansion was used by Emin Bey, the Treasurer of Edirne and his family. After remaining empty for a while, Necmi İğe and his family moved into the mansion in 1922. Necmi İğe's family lived in the mansion until the 1970s and then the mansion remained empty. Over the years, the mansion has been largely destroyed.

The mansion, which was restored by the Thrace Development Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Technology, was arranged as Necmi İğe House Ethnography Museum under the auspices of our Governorship and opened to visitors as a private museum by Edirne Special Provincial Administration on 4 July 2021. The museum was transferred to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on 15 March 2023.

A total of 30 hyperrealistic silicone sculptures were animated with a total of 30 hyperrealistic silicone sculptures in 7 rooms, 6 seki and baths in the museum, and the wedding culture, handicrafts, customs and traditions of our region are explained. Customs such as asking for a girl, dowry room, henna night, groom's shaving, imam wedding, lead pouring, wedding dinner, hammam and zifaf tradition were animated. Local clothes belonging to Rumelia and the Balkans are exhibited.

The museum serves under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
