It was built in 1482 by Sitti Hatun, the wife of Fatih Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror and the daughter of Dulkadiroğlu Süleyman Bey. As it is understood from historical sources, she built a mosque in a part of her palace, which was standing until 1743. The mosque is also known as Sitti Şah Sultan Mosque, Sitti Sultan Mosque and Hatuniye Mosque . It was repaired in 1980s and 1990s.

The building has three endowments dated 1520, 1530 and 1574. In the foundation dated 1530, it is stated that the villages of Tavruk and Kratoya of Keşan and in the foundation dated 1573-1574, in addition to the two villages mentioned above, the village of Depeli was endowed to this mosque.
