Uzunköprü City Museum
"Uzunköprü: A City Carrying Its Past to the Future" project, the restoration of the Old Tekel Administrative Building and the creation of a City Museum was deemed worthy of support by the Trakya Development Agency and supported. Within the scope of the project, the restoration of the Old Tekel Administrative Building was tendered in 2012 and completed in July 2013.
Within the scope of the project, a project team was formed within Uzunköprü Municipality in order to identify and collect the materials to be used in the museum to be created at the end of the restoration work, flyers were printed and distributed in order to collect items from Uzunköprü centre and villages under the consultancy of the service provider, and the issue was reported in the local press.
Among the collected items, those with exhibition value were separated, conserved and the museum was put into service on 16.12.2013 and it is open to the public and free of charge. Uzunköprü City Museum has ensured that a disappearing historical structure is brought to light and our city is promoted.
Uzunköprü City Museum, located in a two-storey historical building, consists of six rooms and the corridors of both floors are used for display purposes. In three rooms on the first floor of the museum, historical coins, rifles and swords, typewriters and calculators, record players and radios, cameras and copper pots are exhibited.
In the corridor on the second floor of the museum, a silicon soldier sculpture emphasizing the importance of Uzunköprü in the Çanakkale Wars welcomes us, while the coffee corner at the other end of the corridor creates a warm atmosphere. "Bridal Room" and "Living Room" These are the rooms where historical items such as sewing machines, mirrors, baby booties, pitchers, suitcases, coal irons used by Uzunköprü families in their daily lives are exhibited.
Since 1934, the silicon statue of Maksut Dondurmacı, the founder of the famous Cazgır ice cream, which has become the historical flavor of Uzunköprü, is also exhibited on the upper floor.
On the walls of the lower and upper floors of the museum, there are information panels on the history of Uzunköprü. These panels, which serve as a guide to the visitor while visiting the museum, cover various topics ranging from the founding story of Uzunköprü, historical mosques, fountains and other historical monuments in the city, important events in the history of the city and old photographs of people who lived in Uzunköprü.
It welcomes its visitors in the status of a private museum affiliated to Uzunköprü Municipality.
